Literacy Assessments
Early identification of literacy difficulties is critical in preventing long-term academic challenges and ensuring that children receive the support they need as soon as possible. When literacy difficulties are identified early, typically during preschool or the early primary years, educators and specialists can implement targeted interventions that address specific areas of need, such as phonemic awareness, decoding, or vocabulary development. This proactive approach not only helps to mitigate the risk of children falling behind their peers but also boosts their confidence and motivation by providing them with the tools and strategies to succeed. Early identification also enables a collaborative effort among teachers, specialists, and parents, creating a supportive environment that fosters a child's overall literacy development and helps them reach their full potential.
Prior to the assessment you will be sent a parent questionnaire and a school questionnaire. We request recent school reports to see if there are specific areas of concern that we might look at in more detail.
Standard Assessment
An initial literacy assessment is required prior to beginning tutoring sessions. This assessment involves assessing reading, spelling, phonological awareness and writing skills.
Extended Assessment
In some instances a more detailed assessment may be required. This will involve assessing memory and processing speed which can impact on a student’s learning ability.
